Version 6, Saturday 12th July

 Programme booklet V6.pdf
We hope this is the final version. Please check your presentation time, especially look for the red text which shows presentations that have changed since the previous timetable. - chrisrust chrisrust Jul 10, 2008 2:31 am
To make it easy to find the date and time of your presentation, or any sessions you have been asked to chair, we have also produced a Presenters Schedule - presenters are listed alphabetically.

We've done our best to check for errors, but if you spot anything we've missed, please let us know!

Keynote Speakers

We have three Keynote Speakers invited to provided a provocative contribution on each of the three days.

Saturday Afternoon and Evening

We are planning a trip out into the countryside where we will have some guided walks planned and you can have an evening meal in a village pub. We will take the local train so you can be flexible and return to Sheffield when you want. Please let Kirsty Christer know if you want to join in this.

Presenting a Paper

Here are some general guidance notes for presenters especially novices. They are there to ensure that your presentation goes smoothly and does not interfere with anybody else's presentation.

Main points to remember are:

  • Important - Check the timetables displayed in the Heartspace to make sure that your presentation time has not changed. There were a few minor changes made after the timetable booklet was printed.
  • 20+5 You have 20 minutes to make your presentation plus 5 minutes for questions
  • 10 minutes early. Be in the room for your presentation at least 10 minutes before the session starts (the whole session, not your own presentation) so you have time to ensure everything is ready for you and to meet the session chair.

Technical issues

  • Please take your presentation (usb stick or CD) to the presentations desk to upload at least 2 hours before your session.
  • Filenames must include your name, otherwise we may not be able to recognise which is your file.
  • If you are using non-standard materials, if you are using video or audio or softeware other than Powerpoint you must check that it works OK in the presentation room well before the session during one of the breaks. Don't leave it to the last minute.
  • If you need to use your own laptop, make sure it works OK in your presentation room well before the session during one of the breaks. Don't leave it to the last minute.
  • If your presentation is delayed by technical problems because you have not done these checks in good time you will not be given any extra time, that would not be fair to the other presenters

All rooms will have a PC and digital projector suitable for powerpoint presentations. The computers will have internet connections.
If you require audio equipment, or wish to use your own computer, please see our technical support steward as early as possible when you arrive at the conference.
Our normal approach will be to load your presentation onto the computer in your session room half a day ahead of the presentation. Please make sure you see our technical support steward well before your session.
If you require any other kind of presentation aid (e.g. Overhead projector), please email Kirsty Christer. If you leave it until you arrive in Sheffield you will give us a lot of extra work and we cannot guarantee that you will get what you need.
