  • The most convenient large international airport is Manchester (MAN).
This page has a list of destinations with airlines
There is a direct train service every hour from Manchester Airport to Sheffield taking around 75 minutes. You can save time by buying your train ticket in the baggage collection area, while waiting for your bags, from an automatic machine that takes credit cards (Trans-Pennine Express).

  • London Heathrow (LHR) is around 4 hours travel from Sheffield,
Take the Heathrow Express train to London Paddington,
Then the underground to St Pancras International station.
From St Pancras International there are fast direct trains to Sheffield
When searching thetrainline.com for train schedules give the station name as "Heathrow Airport (Any)"

  • London Gatwick (LGW) is also around 4 hours.
DON'T take the Gatwick Express to London. It goes to the wrong station for you.
There is a frequent direct service from Gatwick to St Pancras International Station. (First Capital Connect Trains). This route also gives you some intimate glimpses of the City of London, the only rail route that goes through the middle of the city.
